Ground Protection Mats for Oil & Gas

Oil and gas sites need matting that can carry a drilling rig on unprepared ground, be recovered when the lease moves, and survive enough cycles to be worth owning rather than renting.

What this application demands

Rig loads on unprepared ground

A walking rig concentrates enormous load into a small footprint. Matting has to spread it far enough that the pad stays within its bearing capacity through the whole move, not just at setup.

Lease sites that have to be handed back

Access is temporary by definition. Mats that lift cleanly and leave the ground recoverable are the difference between a straightforward reclamation and a remediation bill.

Cycles before scrapping

A lease programme buys the same mats many times over. Laminated bamboo resists the rot and splitting that take sawn timber out of service, which is where the cost per use is decided rather than at the unit price.

Common questions

What mats are used on oilfield lease sites?

Rig mats form the engineered platform under the rig itself, access mats build the temporary road in and the surrounding work pads, and crane mats sit under lift equipment during setup.

Can bamboo mats handle a walking rig?

Crocodile Products bamboo composite mats were tested to over 480 kN by IBST, and Lasso Drilling has used them for years under walking rigs weighing over 1 million pounds in Texas. Mat count and layout for a given rig still come from the pad design.
